How to Apply — Step by Step
- Visit the AIIMS CRE-4 portal: APPLY_LINK_OR_PORTAL (or
www.aiimsexams.ac.in). - Register and complete the online application form (100% online). Upload photo, signature, & thumb impression as per guidelines.
- Pay the application fee online (Debit/Credit/Netbanking). PwBD candidates are exempted.
- Submit the form and save the registration slip & payment proof. No physical document required at application stage.
- Download Admit Card from the portal when issued and appear for CBT.
Important application notes
- No Objection Certificate (NOC): Mandatory for candidates currently employed in Government / PSU / Autonomous bodies. Upload while applying and produce at document verification.
- Experience: Must be acquired after obtaining the essential qualification and before closing date.
- Eligibility is provisional: Passing CBT or getting an Admit Card does NOT guarantee final appointment — institutes verify eligibility during document verification.

Use the closing date of online registration (02 Dec 2025) as the reference for calculating age. Institute-specific relaxations (for employees, contractual staff, domicile etc.) are noted in the DRA.
PwBD & Scribe / Compensatory Time Rules
- Only persons with benchmark disability (≥40%) are eligible for reservation under PwBD.
- Categories include: Blind/Low Vision, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Locomotor disability (including cerebral palsy), Autism/ID/SLD etc.
- PwBD candidates in categories Blind / Both Arms affected / Cerebral Palsy may opt for a scribe and will be allowed 20 minutes per hour compensatory time (pro-rata for shorter durations).
- For other PwBD categories, scribe & compensatory time may be allowed on production of a medical certificate in the prescribed format.
- If candidate uses own scribe, their qualification must be one step below the test qualification (but at most matriculation).
All PwBD candidates allocated seats will be assessed by a Medical Board of the respective AIIMS/Institute to determine suitability for the post.
Exam Pattern & Syllabus — Optometry / Ophthalmic (Group)
CBT Pattern (common)
- Duration: 90 minutes
- 100 MCQs — Total 400 marks (4 marks each). Negative marking: −1 for wrong answer.
- Sections: 5 sections of 20 Qs each; each section visible only for a set time (approx 18 min) and then locked.
- Qualifying marks: UR/EWS 40%; OBC 35%; SC/ST 30%; PwBD 30%.
- Medium: Domain sections for technical posts generally in English only.
Domain Syllabus — Suggested topics (prepare thoroughly)
- Ocular anatomy & physiology
- Objective & subjective refraction (retinoscopy, autorefractor, refraction techniques)
- Visual acuity testing (charts), pediatric VA basics
- Slit lamp basics, keratometry, fundus basics
- Low vision assessment & basic rehabilitation
- Orthoptics screening & ocular motility basics
- Contact lens basics (fitting, hygiene)
- Basic ocular pharmacology (topical drugs, dilating agents)
- Instrument handling & maintenance (autorefractor, keratometer)
- Patient records, data entry & basic computer skills
If a post has a Skill Test (practical/typing/stenography), it will be qualifying in nature. Details of Skill Test norms are in ANNEXURE-V of the DRA.

CRE-4 covers numerous Group-B & Group-C posts beyond optometry. Some examples:
